This was the hottest NYE party I ever been too.
Friendly crowd, funny staff, good food and really strong cocktails.
We got there quite early and the place wasn't very busy, we had a good meal, but though we might have picked the wrong place to spend New Years Eve since it was so quiet, but by ten the place was stuffed with people dancing everywhere. We had jugs and jugs of the lime cocktail and I must have lost a pound in sweat. I will be coming back.

I have just been for my 30th birthday and that was far the worse venue to organise a birthday diner. To start with, they obliged us to order our menu 3 days in advance, and putting the price up to 30% from one day to the other. They first made us queue outside the venue for 20 minutes, despite saying we had a diner reservation. They made us squeeze in a small table. We waited 1 hour before the starter and waited another 30 minutes before the main. They also took the order wrongly and forgot 2 main courses for my friends. to finish, they gave my birthday cake to another table.....and came up with the wrong cake. The waiter was incredibly rude, all the way through the diner, not answering questions, being arrogant and rude. we refused to pay the £60 service charge they wanted us to pay and that was the start of a schizo waiter being extremely aggresive. will NEVER go back here EVER again. And on top of everything, the food is not bad and far too overprices, not even speaking about the drinks...a mijotos in a water short glass costs £7.00.....A NIGHTMARE

If i could give favela chic a minus i would. or at least a fat ZERO!!! the worst place I have ever been. we booked a table for my birthday for 14 people and they gave us space for 8. the security manager was the most horrible, rude, unprofessional, person we have ever met. she started 3 arguments with my guest independently throughout the night due to people having to squeeze by her to sit down on the long benches....of course she couldn't move. she was the boss after all. she shouted and physically aggressed me for trying to speak on the phone in the "wrong place" ... no sign or pls could you move etc.... .The food was terrible. very poor. I am brasilian and this is not a brasilian bar. It is a french bar run by french people trying to sucker the brits into thinking it is a trendy brasilian bar,... they do play brasilian funk music.... clearly just a ploy to liberate you of your hard earned cash. please, whatever you do avoid this place. there are many better places in Shoreditch/london and the world you should try first. Favela Chic is great if you're off your head on drugs and you're only drinking water in my opinion. Otherwise the music won't make sense, the people and staff will piss you off, and your money will be spent on the first 2 drinks.

I had my 30th here last Sat night. Booking was for 26 people. There were lots of rules for the booking - all attendees had to eat and there was a minimum £12 spend on food alone. Also told table bookings were for 2 hours only. It ended up feeling incredibly rushed with not enough time for 3 courses. I also don't think they gave much thought to how they would fit 26 people around a table so they could eat comfortably - we were sitting on top of each other. On the up side, my steak was very good. By the time the 2 hours were up, the place was packed and it was difficult for 26 people to then find space on the dancefloor.

We bought several jugs of cocktails with dinner which I have to say were pretty ordinary, esp £25-30 a jug. And the music was all over the place - perhaps the DJ trying to fit in with the 'electic' vibe??

Overall I wouldn't go back for a special occasion. The 2 hour time limit on tables is unrealistic, particularly for large bookings.

When I told my so-hip-it -hurts friend I'd booked a table at Brazilian/Parisian/Shoreditchian whatever it is trendoid hang out 'Favela Chic,' he raised an eyebrow: 'sure you're hip enough for that?'Well the answer is no and I'm not sure anyone is. Wayfarers, Katherine Hammnet and loon pants are pretty much regulation here. You're not allowed in if you're even approaching biz-cash. The after work crowd need not apply, unless they work at Favela Chic in which case they will be more than usually attractive, rude and most probably French. Keeping out riffraff is an earnest business here. Hen and stag parties are fully out of the question; it was clearly stipulated to me that my party must comprise a gender mix.The resturant/bar/club hybrid is ideal for avoiding trecking around London but do not come in expecting a resturant experience. This is first and foremost a dance club. Long wooden tables are shoved round the edges and you will be shooed off your table the second the final bite of your authentically Brazilian, ridiculously oversalted food approachs your mouth. The service is DEFINITELY of the Shoreditch twat variety, but if you've got any sense you'll be pissed on overpriced caprihanas by 8.30pm anyway and won't care. Lets face it, you're not there to eat. Its just convenient to do so as there's no chance of getting in post 9pm. You have to be territorial about space but things improve once they shove the tables out the way post second sitting and the sweat drenched carnival begins. The original mix of salsa, drop beat electro mixes and motown classis is enough to keep you there til close at 2.The deco is half junk shop, half mardi. A bit schizo, like the music. Its the kind of place that can make you feel several rungs more young London than you actually are. Maybe even imagine that you're in Rio (but certainly not a favela as the ludicrous name implies).

I have never been so ripped off in my life by a restuarant. The "chicken Pie" for £10 was 1/8th of a 7 inche wide pie and a cm thick! And to top that. It felt like I was eating lemon curd (great for desert - not for dinner!). Staff did nothing about my complaint. The poeple next to me looked like they were going to eat their plates because the portions were so small. Their chef must have graduated from smirf school. Do not eat there.

I must say that I have never had such an appauling evening as experienced in Favela Chic. I would agree that to visit on a night out early on, (18:00-20:00), for a drink and a chat before you go on somewhere else would be fine, but don't eat there and don't plan on meeting uip with your friends there. The food is atrocious! Unauthentic Brazilian cuisine overpriced and lacking in taste. unfriendly doorman (not bouncers but the French guy with the clip-board) and a manager so uncomprimising that we ended up leaving and going to a bar in Hoxton bar & grill which was far better. Please don't spend your hard earned cash at Favela Chic, you will regret it.
