I thoroughly enjoyed our recent evening at The Embassy Bar on Essex Road, Islington. Having just moved to the area I
A brilliant little place to meet in, Embassy has the feeling of being a little bit off the beaten track , when in fact it's very handy for Central Islington Upper Street bars cos its just a short walk up Cross Street. and for after-office hours drinks, or even a coffee. Pizza was good and hit the spot for a hot quick bite to eat.
Staff are extremely helpful and happy to advise on wines or their none pretentious House Cocktails , will let you have a little taste and are all reasonably priced at £6.50 each.
A cheerful, funky and friendly place where you can relax without the grievous bodily harmony of "musak". Good fun with a group of friends, equally good on your own.
What made me fall for it initially was the quality of the music being played by the Thursday night dj .. I believe they have quality booked DJ's from Thursday-Friday every week .. so I will be checking it out! .. also the library of newspapers and music subscriptions to read while you're sitting having a relaxed drink.
Service is friendly, helpful and well observed - they 're there when you wish they were, but not intrusive and trying to force things upon you. and they're happy to adapt things as necessary.
Well worth returning to so I have booked my birthday party there for next week ! .. booking with the manager Lauren , who is friendly, helpful. we confirmed the date and as it is a large group Lauren gave us a discount on some early arrival cocktails ! ..
Loving my new local The Embassy Bar !
In a word...awful! cheap looking punters in a grotty boozer!chairs held together by gaffa tape-flies all over the bar?club? what is it?Over the top prices, microwaved pizza's-we went there on a saturday afternoon and the bar man told us he had forgot to warm up da microwave(????) so our pizzas would take an hour to cook. 4.50 for a glass of wine and my pint had no head whatsoeverwith so many wicked bars and restaurants in the area i would never think of wasting my hard earned cash in this sh*t hole againembassy bar - get back to reality
Went to the embassy this weekend and thought it was great. Music was fantastic and i loved the bar downstairs, loving the disco ball! There was a charge at the door but i didnt mind paying seeming i could put my coat and bag away in the cloakroom and the bar was open until 2am....
we did have to wait a little while for a drink but it was very busy, and all the staff were very nice. All in all had a great night. Would recommend for a fun, Sophisticated and reasonably cheap night out x
Noisy, awful and extremely over loud music. No good atmosphere at all, except if you like drunk and depressed people lying around on the sofas. The worst staff ever, but the responsible for the cloakroom. I was stopped outside the door and asked to pay the entrance fee in a really heavy rainy evening. I asked the porter to allow me to go to the entrance hall just to open my wallet (I was completely wet and carrying my scarf to protect my hair). He allowed me to go inside just after asking him for the forth time and looking at him completely angry with the situation. Well, I was there only to celebrate a friend of mine’s birthday which is why I insisted to stay, otherwise, seriously, I would never stay in a place where already at the entrance hall someone treats me so badly. Must close down.
This is such a good bar. I love coming here, mid week and on the weekends. A great atmosphere and friendly bar staff. They are also willing to make you cocktails that aren't on the list!! Drinks are very reasonably priced and the decor is fab! The girls toilets are really nice and clean with a little 2 seater for the chats that we tend to have in there! I would recommend this bar to people who like cool music where you can actually chat and not have to scream over the music. There are no kids in there and everyones there for a good time. I have met lots of really nice and interesting people in there. I hope it stays open forever!!! (or at least until I'm too old to be going out) Amy x
My friends and I love the flock wallpaper and the feel of the place. Every time we've been there, it's been great and we always look forward to having a boogie in the downstairs bar.
We go often enough that they have issued us membership cards which gets us free entry. Another nice thing is that since the smoking ban, they now have a lovely area outside decked out for us smokers (we should really quit).
This is not a club. It's just a pub and this is apparent when you walk in the place. They are trying to make people believe that it's a club by getting a DJ and charging people to get in...ridiculous.
I went on a Saturday night and there were only a few people there having a quiet drink. Nothing wrong with that but they've got a bloody cheek charging people to get in. Poncey wallpaper and an area cleared in the tiny basement for people to dance does not a club make!
This Embassy nightclub is not what they say it is. It's a load of shit.
The Embassy Bar is really rubbish. The bar service was very slow, and the dance floor was only a quarter full on a Friday night becuase the music was appalling.
I would definitely give the Embassy Bar a miss.
The history behind the cellars at the Embassy Bar is really interesting, if you are able to get anyone to talk you through them. Although Embassy Bar itself is a lot more interesting and the bar staff are very friendly and obliging.
The Embassy Bar has a really cool, laid back atmosphere, friendly staff, & perfect music for the mood of the place. There's also a nice little club downstairs at the Embassy Bar...v.good night out!
I really want to write an awful review so less people go to Embassy Bar, but I can't do that to its owners who have managed to create one of the best bars in London.
It's dark inside and slightly kitsch, but this gives Embassy Bar an unpretentious yet trendy and funky vibe. As the previous reviewer said, the ground floor bar is great for meeting up for a couple of drinks, and the basement good for a bit of booty-shaking.
For a place with such impressive credentials you'd think the staff and clientele would be of the 'cool and don't we know it' brigade. But they aren't: generally everyone's friendly and laid back. The only thing stopping this wonderful place getting 5 stars is the slightly uninspired range of drinks, and the fact that it does get very busy.
Get there early, enjoy yourself, and above all, don't recommend it to anyone else!
Embassy Bar just gets better. The ground level bar is simply cool - a great place to meet friends and be able to hear each other speak over a cocktail or two. The downstairs dance floor still rocks!
Embassy Bar is good value for money. Love it.
I used to work at Embassy Bar and I loved the atmosphere and the crowd. It's a good place to go. Everyone should check Embassy out.
