I really enjoyed myself on saturday night as did all my friends. it was a very friendly atmosphere and the music was great. on the main the staff were very polite and friendly.
I giving this place a 1 star rating, based mainly on the two reviews posted on the 19th Nov and 15th October by someone who clearly is a member of staff (or even manager!?) of Verve.
Who 'frequents' anywhere for a 'friendly chat with the staff'? Rubbish, musak styled reviews giving their own place top stars.. I can see through you!
I have to agree with the comments below about the security and I stopped going there because of that. However I have recently started going back because it seems that the management have changed the security to people who know how to treat customers.
I have worked in Leicester square for a couple of years and I have always loved going there after work, nice to go back and be welcomed by a friendly smile.
I have only been to Verve twice, so I guess I can only report on my first and second impression: this place is the lowest of the low... what a waste of space at such a brilliant location! I think the management should consider that people who party at Leicester Square in London -even if they are young and not particularly posh - expect certain standards of service. Staff members, especially security staff, need urgent training on how to treat PAYING CUSTOMERS...
I use to come very regularly to this place when it was Long Island Ice T - back then the ambience was great, security staff were freindly (and attitude free) and the venue was well maintained.
Have come here before when I was with a small group - and the same security men at the door gave us similar problems. When we got in we were disappointed with the poor maintenance of the place.
Now this place reminds me of the 'Pubs' we Londoners were accustomed to in 1400's - bad smell, unclean floors, rude staff and even ruder security. I don't understand what gives these part time working males with bad english and half a brain cell to talk to people in a manner which you would'nt talk to dogs.
We were a large group out for a birthday - and the security staff for no apparent reason would not let us in. The only pathetic explanation was that a large group is a threat! I don't understand how a mixed group of working class people can be threat apart from an increase in cashflow. The security men were very quick to attest to the fact of how 'hard' they were - where I almost felt he was trying to unleash some of his ego on me.
Take my advice and avoid this place like the plague - absoloute time waste.!
I'm a regular at Verve coming at least a couple of nights a week. I love the happy hour deals and the friendly staff always take time out to have a chat. I frequent 2or 3 other bars in Leicester Square and Soho and Verve is one of my favourites. The Friday and Saturday night crowd is a lot different from mid week so if you want to get good attention and a lovely cool atmosphere then come in on one those days instead.
Just came back home from Verve after a disappointing night out. After a couple of hours I left the overcrowded and smelly downstairs club for five minutes to get drinks at the ground floor bar (the tiny bar downstairs had nothing in the fridges except beer) -only to find out I had to queue to be able to go back! I had to spend twenty minutes stuck in the queue juggling drinks in my hands while my friends downstairs were waiting for me.The only positive thing about Verve seems to be the cheap drinks - anyone who wants to get totally wasted, this is your place! Everyone else needs to get really drunk too - that way you won't notice the sticky dance floor, you might enjoy sweaty bodyparts squashed up against you, and you won't mind being bossed around by the rudest security staff on earth.
Went to this place as a part of a theatre deal through last minute.com on Thurs 12th june 2008. It was a present for my husbands birthday and I wish we had gone somewhere else. I am vegetarian and i thought gone are the days where you have to actually check to see if a restaurant does vegetarian food but to my astonishment nothing on the menu was vegetarian apart from the side orders!!! We were then told that if you are a theatre deal then only certain things are included which was the mains and burgers but none of this was vegetarian! The waitress was very nice but didnt really know what was going on. In the end they offered me some pasta with a boring tomato sauce or they would adapt one of their platters. Then we asked for our desserts but we were told that dessert was not included in the deal when it is advertised on last minute as a 2 course meal! I was very disappointed by this restaurant and warn vegetarians to stay away!
